Our Hard Working Man

This has been one of those insanely busy weeks for Dave. It started last weekend with his biggest fundraiser of the year, the Italian Cafe. Though requiring much planning in the purchasing and preparing of food for 200 people and much delegation in keeping the 30 some high schoolers busy and actually working, the dinner went off perfectly and raised thousands of dollars for summer trips. Then Dave preached on Sunday, led junior high youth group on Monday and high school youth group on Wednesday. Since he is the Stated Clerk, his responsibilities at Tuesday's all-day Classis meeting also brought tons of work, stress and even a nightmare about being eaten alive in a pool of alligators! Last, Dave left for the annual 3 day Winter Retreat with his youth group this afternoon. He spent the rare and spare minutes of his week preparing the spiritual theme and buying supplies for this big event. Needless to say, we haven't had too much Daddy-time this week.

This morning we were able to steal him for about an hour to go out for breakfast. Though a list of errands sat waiting, it was nice to have a little family time. We'll have some more tomorrow as I and the girls drive to the cabin Dave rents in the mountains for some fun in the snow.

The name of the game when we are Dave-less is distraction. This week we kept busy ourselves with bike rides through the country, Bible Study, a few trips into town, a mega-walk on Wednesday, and this fun afternoon we spent with Jonathan running around and riding bikes in our church parking lot.

Tonight we joined up with Jetta and gang (her husband Phil is one of Dave's youth group leaders, also gone on the retreat) for some girl bonding. Ella loved jumping, playing, getting dirty and showering with her 4 buddies. Delia spent lots of quality time with her 2 buddies, getting some crawling lessons from Cora and just chillin' with Peter-- who's either going to love or hate this 9 to 1 girl/boy ratio some day! Since Jetta doesn't own a TV or computer, her family rents a movie from the church library and watches it theatre-style with projector on bed sheet every Friday night. That plus the pizza and dessert we brought added up to a great night that sure beat sitting at home alone. Next year we're all bringing our jammies for a giant slumber party!

Wow! That sounds like a busy week for Dave! Glad you could find some fun things to do with friends though. I hope Dave gets some much needed rest, and the girls get some much-needed Daddy time soon! (:

Sounds like Mama did a great job of distracting the girls and holding down the fort while Daddy was working hard. I love the way you guys embrace the schedule and make it work. You inspire me.

Ah, Jen! That's one crazy week - even for a pastor's wife:-) I guess I won't be bothering Dave about Classis minutes anytime soon; I would hate to be one of those alligators!!
