A Ride Through the Country

Don't hate us, but today we had another sunny, gorgeous day in the 70s. We just had to get outside and decided to test Delia's sitting abilities with a bike ride. The girls were cute-o-rama cuddled up in the carrier together. Instead of just peddling around our neighborhood, we decided to follow the orchard lined streets out to the country roads. Besides the amazing almond trees in full bloom (the "beautiful bloomin's" Ella calls them), we also took in cows, horses, chickens, ducks in a pond, goats and dogs (including a suicidal Chihuahua who kept trying to leap in front of my speeding bike tires!). My favorite animal spotting, though, was a field full of lambs and mama sheep. They all "baa-ed" a greeting when we pulled up. I loved watching the frisky, but clumsy baby lambs nursing and playing in the big green pasture with flowered orchards and mountains as their backdrop. The emu farm was a pretty exciting find too. We've lived here 5 years now, but the lifestyle we've become accustomed to-- warm weather when I expect it to be snowing and a veritable "Old MacDonald Had A Farm" less than a mile bike ride away-- never ceases to thrill me!

Boy, does that ever make me miss Ripon! What fun for the girls to see all those animals! We are sure missing California weather, but are glad you get to enjoy so much fun outside.

Well, we're enjoying the weather too. (I think I'm getting spoiled) However, I think we'll have to get your way to enjoy the "farm". Anika has been begging to go to a zoo, this might be the next best thing!
