A Handful Feast for Ella

Today Ella celebrated Thanksgiving at school. Her class, the Sunshines (3 year olds), were the Indians and the Stars (4 year olds) were the Pilgrims. They play acted the first Thanksgiving then shared a feast. The feast was comprised of handfuls of 30 different treats. Each student brought a handful of nuts, raisins, cereal, chocolate chips, etc. (Ella choose to bring yogurt covered pretzels) and then learned how just a handful doesn't look like much until it is shared, then it becomes a feast!

For homework, Ella had to decorate a Thankful Bag (she choose to use bingo dobbers, stickers and glitter) and fill it with items she was thankful for. In Ella's bag were a picture of our family, a picture of her friends, some animals, a book, a shirt and some play food. She picked out these things on her own and has been thanking God for the blessings in her life each night this week.

We are going to celebrate God's goodness with some members of our extended church family, the Wickers, this year. Though we will miss our immediate family and the VM traditions , we are thankful to have good friends to play and eat with. One VM tradition is to go around the table and say what we are thankful for. Ella has already shared. What are yours? Let's participate as a community, leave us a comment! (Do it after Thursday if you don't want to spoil your big speech!) I'm predictable this year. I'm so thankful for my devoted and hard-working husband and our wonderful children. I'm thankful for the network of siblings, aunties, uncles, cousins, grandparents and church family who love and and take such good care of us.

Hi VMs, we are thankful that you are our friends! Just two years ago we hadn't met you yet, and we'd be pretty lonely without you. We're going to do a thankful post, too, but just wanted to let you know we're thankful for you!

Love,
Jonathan and family

We praise God for the gift of our son Cole and the sacrifice that his birth mother Anna made for our family. The sacrifice is in his huge smile. It is in his laughter, his growth, his joy at seeing my face and hearing my voice, his dependence on me for all he needs and wants. Her son. She gave all of that to me. I am thankful that God did the same. His sacrifice for me is in all I do as well. It's in the hope and expectation of no more pain, sorrow of saying good bye. It is in the knowledge that I never have to carry my burden again. His sacrifice has made me new. His son. He gave all of that to me.

Happy Thanksgiving!
With Love,
Kris (and Eric and Cole and Melvin)
