Some VERY Special Visitors!
When we moved to this area 4 years ago, we were welcomed most immediately and most warmly by a couple named Phil and Teri. At the time they had 2 girls named Beth and Allie who were impossible to not love! Later, we got to witness Teri's 3rd pregnancy and child-- Nathan. We spent much time with this family-- sharing meals (almost every Sunday at one point!), playing with the kids, talking and getting to know each other. We developed an amazing respect for Phil and Teri in the Godly and loving way they raised their family. They gave us many pep talks about starting our own family. The day after we took that life-changing positive pregnancy test for Ella, it was Teri that we ran to.
Shortly after sharing the exciting news of our pregnancy and imagining all the cool ways we could be moms together, Phil and Teri had to move far away because of Phil's job. This was very hard for all of us, as they had become our best friends and most valuable parenting resource.
God has not let the distance weaken our friendship, though. We are still a day's drive away from each other and make trips when we can. Teri and I talk on the phone regularly. In many ways our friendship has grown stronger (Teri says it's because we are more "intentional" about it now). Somehow their family was meant to be important in our lives and even through distance we have stayed extremely close.
This weekend Teri and the kids are out for a visit. They have many people to see, so they are not spending the whole time with us, but we enjoyed a fun day together. We ate lunch, chatted and watched our kids joyfully play together. Our other good friend, Julie, and her daughter, Mikaela, came over too.
