Roommates

Last night a major transition occurred in our home: Delia spent the whole night sleeping in her crib! The crib is actually not a foreign place to Delia. She does take some naps in it and likes to cuddle up with Ella reading stories in it. This move to the crib for night time sleeping, though, was prompted in part by a conversation I had with a friend at Bible study yesterday. She also has a real mama's girl of a daughter and made this comment, "If my daughter knew I was just a foot away, she'd wake up a thousand times during the night too. We had to move her away from us to get sleep!" So we figured, what have we got to loose? A night of sleep? That would be nothing new!

So, how did it go? Good news, it was not a disaster! We think the girls (at least Ella) knew about each other, so they were good at going right to sleep and not making too much noise during the night. Both roused and called out separate times, but never woke each other. Delia still woke up her average 3 times and instead of just grabbing her from the cradle at the foot of the bed, I had to trek down the hallway...but that is okay. We are encouraged and hopeful that this could be an important step to enhancing all of our sleep. I will miss my little roommate, but it is time I let her move in with her sister, as has been the plan all along. At any rate, it was WONDERFUL to read in bed with all the lights on last night and be able to talk above a whisper.

WOW, that's a big change! Hope it leads to progress. Maybe Delia will decide that waking up isn't worth the trouble since she has to wait for you to get down the hall. ;) Good for you for trying something different...that's hard to do!

I love how your blog has evolved into a place to dialogue about parenting. It's very inspirational to me to have this window to the VM family world. You guys give great ideas and encouragement for other families.
love you,
